The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria is an enjoyable learning experience for visitors of all ages with their permanent exhibits and the exhibits that are on loan. The guest of the Day Inn Victoria will find the gallery is close enough to visit whenever they have time to spend looking at the works of some of the world’s most famous artists and some of Canada’s own famous artists. This includes the works of Canadian artist Emily Carr whose works are at home in the gallery year round.
Carr’s watercolors are exhibited in the gallery along with artists like Josephine Crease, Sophie Pemberton, and members of the group of seven such as Mark Tobey, Lawren Harris, A.Y. Jackson, and Arthur Lismer. The works of Jack Shadbolt, Myfanwy Pavelic and Statira Frame can also be seen at the gallery.
Guests at the Days Inn Victoria will also find exhibits that have been lent to the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria such as the Arts of Japan’s Last Shogun Age, and there are over 17,000 permanent works that include Asian and Japanese art, and other International art. There is also art that depicts Canada, British Columbia and other local regions in the permanent holdings of the gallery.
The visitor to the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria can either take a tour of the gallery with a guide that will explain each of the collections and the importance of the local artist’s impact on the area such as Emily Carr. Guests are also able to roam about the gallery at their own pace and view the exhibits that are of interest to their artistic taste. It is possible to view different exhibits each time the visitor is a guest of the Days Inn Victoria with the many different exhibits that are on loan from other art galleries around the world.
