Beacon Hill Park in Victoria

Beacon Hill Park is the perfect place for guests at the Days Inn Victoria to spend a day in the fresh air and where the entire family can have fun. The park is 75 hectares and has a lot for the visitor to do with steams, duck ponds, wading pools, playgrounds, and a petting zoo for the children and a cricket field. The park also hosts many festivals during the year that are sure to be fun and exciting for the Day Inn guest while in Victoria. One of the most popular of the festivals hosted at Beacon Hill Park is the Luminara festival, where there are thousands of handmade lanterns, performance artists, dancers and music.

The petting zoo, known as Hill Children’s Farm is where children will find the friendly animals that they can actually pet, this is an easy way for even the youngest child to learn about animals like goats that reside on the farm.

The park in spring is a site that is amazing with thousands of daffodils and blue camas; there are more than 30,000 plants that can be seen with semiannual planting. There is the Lookout, which is known as the Lover’s Lane of Victoria in the park, where the couple can see a panoramic view of the Juan de Fuca Strait.

One of the other unique features of the park is what is known as zero mile, this is the start of the Trans-Canada Highway. The name of the park comes from the two beacons on Mount Beacon, with one a blue triangle and the other a green square that was used by sailors. When the sailor could see the green square through the blue triangle it meant the ship was in trouble, because it was on Brotchie Ledge.
